As a huge fan of camping & coffee technology, the JetBoil Personal Cooking System with optional coffee press attachment is a unique combination for the outdoor fanatic. Good coffee while camping is essential in my book and seems to be a dual purpose stove. Although this all sounds great I do have some reservations about this product with so many add-ons so please read on.

Concept of JetBoil

Attach a JetBoil fuel canister to the bottom (hear other 225g canister Butane/propane canister fuel cans work as well) (please note that the fuel does not come with the stove you need to buy separately)

Boils Water – 0.5 liter of water in 2.42 minutes (I thought it should of been faster but very good) (11 liters per 100g of fuel)

Maximum Flame – 100g canister per 42 minutes (Doing the math .42g/minute means the large container provides 94.50 minutes of cooking)

Dimensions – 7.1 x 4.5 x 4.1 inches

Weight – 15.3 ounces (not including fuel or press)

Tell me more about the JetBoil Concept:

FluxRing heat exchanger improves fuel efficiency and has built in wind screen (important as most stoves go out when windy)

Insulated Neoprene cover won’t burn and keeps the water or coffee hot as well as heating efficiency

Easy lighting with Piezo igniter and no need to pump or prime the stove (never liked that)

Burner and cup fit together into a nice lightweight solution for small trips. On larger excursions I might recommend a different product.

Concerns

The Coffee press should be included for a $100 stove and the $19.95 seems a little lame to charge for.

If you make coffee in the same container you cook in your pasta or soup may taste like the coffee.

Cleanup – coffee grinds are nasty to deal with in the woods and really a sealed coffee grind design you drop in may of been a better approach.

Making 2 things at once. How can you make pasta with this and sauce for example? Or tea and other? I did notice that JetBoil sells a companion cup for an additional $39 so you can switch out the cup and would be something more to buy and adds to pack size.

I noticed JetBoil sells a larger pot and a stabilizing stand which once again is nice but I wonder why not pack a larger stove?

Companion Cup & French Press Attachment

My overall feeling is that the JetBoil Personal Stove is a solid solution for the ultra light expedition for one or 2 people max. I wanted to give kudos to JetBoil for innovating around the weakness of the product and incorporating companion cups, larger pot and utensils.

I made a video review of the one cup Keurig Mini B30 coffee maker and this $79 little wonder brews coffee, tea, cocoa in under 3 minutes. Just pop in a kcup single serve coffee pod and when you are done brewing you toss the kcup away. What I like is that you can also use the my kcup accessory so you can use your own coffee as well. I hope you check out my video and let me know what you think.

What is inside a KCup?
The keurig coffee maker cuts a hole in the top of the kcup and pushes hot water through the top and out of the bottom another hole lets the coffee out. With the pressure through the coffee beans you have an instant cup of coffee with no cleanup. I dig it!
